Celebrating Lights On Afterschool - 2021!

sunrise708

Launched in October 2000, Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide initative specifically dedicated to celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families and communities.

The initiative is lead by the National; Afterschool Alliance and is designed to attract attention to the many ways afterschool programs support students and communities. The events, and media coverage that place across the country send a powerful message that our communities must continue to support accessible and high-quality afterschool programs for our youth! You can read more about Lights on Afterschool and all the events that took place across the country at - http://www.afterschoolalliance.org/loa.cfm

Take a look at the video below and see how Sunrise joined the celebration!

Sunrise afterschool sites joined in the fun as well! Our students spent the day showing off some of the awesome work they've been doing at their programs and even made some special Lights on Afterschool displays for their parents! Click through to check out some of the pictures below! Huge thank you to everyone who made this day so special!!!

YOUTH VOICE ON DISPLAY!

Students at Sunrise's afterschool program at South Philly Highschool celebrated Lights On Afterschool with a special meeting with members of state government - State Rep. Elizabeth fielder and Council Member Mark Squilla! Students shared some first hand experiences from their time in the school district and discussed some of their recommendations for what they’d like to see in the next superintendent. Stay tuned to our social media and the blog to read more about our meeting!
