What We Do:
Founded in 1999, Sunrise is a community based Out-of-School Time (OST) and family resource provider serving families across the district of Philadelphia and specifically in the South and West Philadelphia Communities.

Youth Programs
Sunrise offers high quality afterschool and summer programs for youth K-12 providing a structured environment designed to support academic and social development.
Our Mission:
The mission of Sunrise of Philadelphia is to support youth who face adversity in discovering their strengths, experiencing success and preparing for their futures.

OST Advocacy
Sunrise is a voice for the promotion and support of out-of-school time for youth across the state of Pennsylvania. We work with city and state agencies to ensure that critical OST support services remain accessible and continue to receive the funding they need.

Community Resources
Sunrise is a community organization. Since our founding, we have worked in partnership with organizations across Philadelphia to ensure that our communities are receiving the highest quality of support and resources possible!
Accessible Out of School Time Programming
For more than 22 years, Sunrise has been providing high value out-of-school time and academic enrichment programming to Philadelphia families across the district.
Sunrise operates several free and accessible after school programs and summer camps offered in partnership with the Philadelphia Office of Children and Families and the School District of Philadelphia. Our afterschool and summer programs currently serve students in grades K-12, offering a structured and stimulating environment focused on preparing young people for success in education and future careers.

Sunrise programs operate Monday-Friday for 36 weeks during the school year and for 6 weeks each summer. Programs are currently hosted at the following Philadelphia District Schools:
Engaging Youth Through Research Driven Curriculum
At Sunrise, we work to build and maintain a family-like afterschool atmosphere designed to support each youth as an individual, as part of a family and as valued members of the community.
Our program model focuses on providing an engaging hands-on environment consisting of structured activity blocks, informal play periods, recreation time, opportunities for athletics, arts and crafts, STEM, digital literacy, and a progression of educational enrichment activities. Program curriculum focuses primarily on academic development while providing meaningful opportunities for social emotional learning, mentorship, and structured peer-to-peer interaction.
Uniting Schools, Families and Communities
As an embedded service provider within several Philadelphia public schools, Sunrise works closely with administrators and other on-site partners to plan, coordinate, and execute meaningful support for youth.
We also work closely with numerous community partners, and resource groups to provide supportive opportunities built to encourage young people to stay on track to high school graduation and connect to post-secondary education and training!
Who We Serve:

What We Offer:
Free and accessible after school programs for families across Philadelphia!
Hands-on enrichment activities & classes led by experienced childcare professionals daily.
Curriculum designed to promote social emotional learning and peer-to-peer engagement.
Opportunities for career development, exposure and direct work experience.
Free youth summer camps and programming opportunities
Direct mentorship experiences and positive adult child interaction experiences for youth

Our programs provide support for working families across Philadelphia. While we serve youth in communities across the city, our programs specifically target vulnerable South and West Philadelphia zip codes where demand for accessible OST opportunities is highest.
We work directly within neighborhoods who’s youth are facing challenges including high poverty and dropout rates, statistically low standardized test scores, increasing rates of crime and drug abuse, and significantly lower access to meaningful and accessible youth intervention programs. The communities we serve also have higher concentrations of first generation immigrant families and non-english speakers who rely on us for enhanced academic support, ESL resources, and special services.
