How to Enroll
  • Sunrise of Philadelphia offers programs for youth in K-12th grade at several local schools in South and West Philadelphia!
     

  • Sunrise afterschool programs offer a structured and stimulating environment focused on preparing young people for success in education and future careers.  
     

  • All Sunrise programs are completely free for families! See below for more details, what to expect, and information on how to enroll.
     

All 2022/23 programs will begin on Tuesday, September 6th, your child’s specific start date will be provided by your site director upon completion of our enrollment process. Programming will run through the end of the school year (specific last days will vary by location).

Please Note: Due to COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocols students may only enroll in programs at the school they attend during the day.

A typical day at Sunrise Afterschool - 

 

2:30 - 3:00 | Sign-in + Snack

3:00 - 3:30 | Afternoon Meeting

3:30 - 4:30 | Enrichment Time- Including: Art, STEM, Literacy, Career Exploration

4:30 - 5:00 | Arts + Crafts / Free play  / Homework help 

5:00 - 5:30 | Board games + Pick up

All Sunrise programs are supervised by caring, professional OST staff, trained in CPR, First Aid, and trauma informed approaches to childcare.

What to Expect:

  • Programming is designed to promote academic enrichment and opportunities for social emotional learning and engagement!

  • Elementary and middle school schedules include structured times for homework help, recreation, arts and crafts, sports, special classes, STEM focused activities and more!

  • High School students explore careers and participate in post-secondary planning alongside social emotional learning and mentorship.

  • Classes and enrichment programs led by community partners around the city including coding through Coded by Kids, music + art courses through Rock to the Future, fun, hands-on STEM activities through The Pennsylvania Society for Biomedical Research, Mural Arts Philadelphia and more! 

  • Programming is centered on creating opportunities for youth to engage in social & emotional development, and extracurricular enrichment.

  • Afterschool programming at all sites runs daily, Monday to Friday (Subject to School District closures for half days / holidays / vacations / inclement weather).

How to Enroll:

In order to enroll a child in Sunrise programming, caregivers must, for each child:

  • Complete an online application,

  • Complete and sign an enrollment packet via Adobe Docusign or paper copy.

 

These materials must be submitted completely before a student can begin programming.

Step 1:

  • Fill out the online application form at the link below. Please be as detailed as possible as it will help us through the enrollment process. 

Step 2

  • A sunrise Site Director will contact you within 5 business days with instructions on how to complete the additional required forms. These can be completed electronically via Adobe Docusign, or by hand. Please share your preference with your site director. Please note - the caregiver may also be required to submit a health assessment for the child. These are not required every year.

 

Step 3

  • Once all materials have been submitted, your school's Site Director will provide the start date for your child. A child may not attend Sunrise programming until their confirmed start date. 

  • If there are any changes or updates to the information you provided, such as new phone numbers, addresses, or emergency contact information, please notify your Site Director immediately.

Sunrise at South Philly HighSchool!

The Sunrise Teen Lounge returns to South Philly High! Join us everyday from 2:30 - 5:30pm for an enriching after school environment where students can hang out with friends, complete schoolwork, and participate in engaging clubs and activities, opportunities and classes led by Sunrise mentors and community partners. 

 

Sunrise at SPSH Programming consists of club style enrichment activities combined with unstructured recreation time, individualized academic support, and unique career development opportunities designed for young adults. Enrichment activities range from from art, photography, podcasting and music production, to rudimentary coding and video game design, brand building + clothing design, civic engagement opportunities and more!

What to Expect

  • A safe and supportive out-of-school time environment complete with computers, TVs, free snacks, games, books, tech and more.

  • Access to all new equipment and supplies - including digital cameras, music production equipment, drones, screen printing materials, art supplies, gaming consoles and more!

  • Mentorship from professionals in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, college prep, career readiness and more.

  • Opportunities for community service and civic engagement including Sunrise’s Student Advisory Council in partnership with the offices of State Senator Nikil Saval and Rep. Liz Fiedler! 

  • College and career readiness opportunities including trips to colleges/universities and work experience. 

  • Opportunities to get paid and earn job experience through Sunrise’s partnership with the Philadelphia Youth Network!

 

Please note - we ask that enrolled youth attend programming for at least 2 hours, 2 days per week.
