Sunrise Participates in Philly Zoo’s Annual Christmas Tree Contest

Students at our Science Leadership Academy Middle School (SLAMS) after school program are participating in the Philadelphia Zoo’s Community Christmas Tree design contest! Help us out by voting for the Sunrise tree as many times as you can before voting ends on January 9th!

  • A Part of the Zoo’s annual LumiNature event, the Our Neck of the Woods display features beautifully decorated trees created by students, organizations and neighborhood partners around Philadelphia.

  • Each community group chose a unique wildlife design to celebrate an animal for all to see!

  • Over the past month, students at SLAMS after school brainstormed and created several different tree designs before deciding together to focus on a design celebrating the beauty and diversity of insects!

  • Students created hand-crafted caterpillars, butterflies, grasshoppers and more to create their tree which they decided to name “Spring into Winter”!

  • Other tree designs feature polar bears, peacocks, penguins, tigers, giraffes and more! Check them all out and cast your vote here!!

  • You can also vote in person at the upcoming LumiNature Community Night on December 14th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. As part of the event, the Zoo will host a COVID-19 vaccination clinic from 4 to 7:00 p.m. with Vaccinations for children ages 5-11 years old as well as first, second doses and booster shots.

  • Follow us on instagram for more details and updates on the contest!!
